Both Football and Netball teams were in action for Watchlytes yesterday afternoon (19.01.17) at Sir Frederic Osborn School, with great results for both teams who braved the wintery weather!
The footballers' opponents this week were Springmead.
This week's squad featured: Leo, James, Lukeanyo, Travis, Joe, Lewis, Josh, Oliver and Henry.
The game began well with Watchlytes having much of the possession. All of the boys were well-focused and were keen to keep the ball on the floor with lots of short passes. We soon took the lead through Henry, who calmly passed the ball past the Springmead goalkeeper. Watchlytes remained on top throughout the first half and were extremely clinical in front of goal. As the match wore on, Springmead also had their chances, but with some great saves from Leo in goal, the team were able to keep a vital clean sheet.
The final score was 10-0 to Watchlytes.
Mr Longland was very impressed with the attitude of all of our players this week and would like to award his 'Man of the Match' award to...
Congratulations to Joe, who was fantastic in midfield, scored a goal of his own and also played a vital part in many of the other goals too!
The netballers' opponents this week were both Springmead and Panshanger.
This week's squad featured: Cyra, Shannon, Maisie, Emma, Isabel, Erin and Reanna.
Watchlytes' first game was against Panshanger, which they won 1-0. The second game against Springmead, which they also won 1-0. The scorers were Isabel and Erin respectively. The girls have been working really hard in training and are now implementing this into game situations. Mrs Benabo was particularly impressed with their shooting and their passing as a team was also noticed as a strength. Interceptions were made at key points in the game, giving us more opportunities to shoot at goal.
Mrs Benabo found picking one player very difficult this week, but the 'Player of the Match' is...
Congratulations to Maisie for her hard work and determination this week! It's great to hear about how much your footwork has improved this season.
